Heatwave–blocking relation change likely dominates over decrease in blocking frequency under global warming

چکیده

Abstract Extra-tropical continental summer heatwaves often occur under persistent anticyclones or blocking. Here we partition heatwave changes into contributions from blocking changes, heatwave–blocking relation change and mean temperature increase, global warming in climate models. We employ an optimized index that best correlates with (Pearson correlation of 0.7) find heatwave-driving decreases but the likely dominates. Over Europe, a historical frequency 2.5%, less will cause 0.6% fewer heatwaves, steepened 1.4% more increase 60% heatwaves. Greenland, flattened dominate over insignificant decrease The future is not caused by frequency, factors such as thermodynamics, enhance capacity to drive

Climate Change over the Equatorial Indo-Pacific in Global Warming*

The response of the equatorial Indian Ocean climate to global warming is investigated using model outputs submitted to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report. In all of the analyzed climate models, the SSTs in the western equatorial Indian Ocean warm more than the SSTs in the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean under global warming; the mean SST gradient acros...

How does ocean ventilation change under global warming?

Since the upper ocean takes up much of the heat added to the earth system by anthropogenic global warming, one would expect that global warming would lead to an increase in stratification and a decrease in the ventilation of the ocean interior. However, multiple simulations in global coupled climate models using an ideal age tracer 5 which is set to zero in the mixed layer and ages at 1 yr/yr o...

Forecasting phenology under global warming.

As a consequence of warming temperatures around the world, spring and autumn phenologies have been shifting, with corresponding changes in the length of the growing season. Our understanding of the spatial and interspecific variation of these changes, however, is limited. Not all species are responding similarly, and there is significant spatial variation in responses even within species. This ...

Local warming: daily temperature change influences belief in global warming.

Although people are quite aware of global warming, their beliefs about it may be malleable; specifically, their beliefs may be constructed in response to questions about global warming. Beliefs may reflect irrelevant but salient information, such as the current day's temperature. This replacement of a more complex, less easily accessed judgment with a simple, more accessible one is known as att...
